Volunteer Columbia Goes to the Fair
Volunteer Columbia hosted a booth at the Columbia County Fair on July 16th, 2008. Staff from Volunteer
Columbia and Department of Human Services answered questions, made buttons and made brochures available for those that may
be interested in volunteering in Columbia County. In addition to those that showed an interest in volunteering, many
organizations showed an interest in becoming a partner and listing their opportunities on our website. Follow-ups are
now being scheduled.
This proved to be great time of sharing ideas and interaction of those that staffed the booth.

Volunteer Management Training Labeled Success
Volunteer Management Training kicked off on Wednesday April 23 at the OSU Extension facility in St Helens. Greg
Russo opened the training with introductions and Woody Davis from OSU Extension Service presented an excellent hour and a half power point presentation.
The eighteen volunteer managers in attendance learned how to recruit, manage, and recognize volunteers.
Participants were very impressed by the quality and style of Woody's presentation. Several
managers exited saying; "this training would be very helpful as more and more volunteers came into their workplace".
Volunteer Columbia will host this training as needed. The OSU Extension Service is willing to present this valuable training in different
parts of Columbia County.
If you are interested in attending volunteer management training please call Volunteer Columbia at 503-366-8387.

Volunteer Columbia Airs
Locally
Volunteer Columbia aired today
for 30 minutes on KOHI radio's 'Columbia Today' morning talk program. Volunteer Coordinator Greg Russo and assistant Ken Corliss were the guests of Marty
Rowe on the 9:00 to 9:30 AM segment of the local community information show. Both Greg and Ken were able to get the message to local listeners to
tell the story of Volunteer Columbia. Volunteer Columbia
is a pilot project for Columbia County to enlist volunteers and volunteer opportunities to make our county
the number one county in Oregon for volunteering.
Ken challenged listeners
to “Imagine the possibilities” if we were to volunteer just one
or two hours per month in our local area. Greg went
on to say volunteering does not necessarily mean a traditionally 20 to 30 hours a week but it
can also be epsodic, where one can volunteer for a one time opportunity or event. Greg asked
listeners to consider volunteering just a couple of hours in
some area they really enjoy.
“Imagine the possibilities”
Talk show host Marty Rowe extended the invitation
to appear in a month or so and bring back updated information about Volunteer Columbia.
